These were available as aftermarket items in 1960 or so.  They were made of
tubular steel about 3/4" diameter and were chromed.  They were shaped like a
"U" but horizontal.  One was mounted to each of the rear bumperettes,  They
were like wrap-around bumpers. The top of the "U" went out from the top
bumperette bolt to the rear corner of the TR3A under the red brake lens,
then like a wrap-around bumper up the side of the car towards the rear wheel
cut-out about 10" or so, then the other half of the "U" looped down and back
to the lower bolt for the bumperette.  Same for the other side.

The idea was they would save your corners from getting dented in a parking
lot.  My opinion is that they stick out so they can actually make a worse
mess than if they were not there.  I don't suppose you're planning to park
your "baby" in a tight parking space to need these ?
