You make a very, very good point. I learned first-hand about the 'crap'
variety when doing repairs on my underground sprinkler system a couple of
years ago. I had to dig down again and repair some more holes (due to
overzealous use of a tree root feeder) and found all the screw clamp
mechanisms were solid rust. The bands of ss were perfect.
