>the weather got cold enough i had to put the top up. so now i hear this
clacking noise when i leave a red light, especially if i am turning right
or
left from a stop sign. it's coming from the rear axle. not loud, but i
hear
it. is this normal on an 80 tr7 or am i low on fluid in the diff or grease
in
the rear bearings ? thanks, larry

It was 41 degrees this morning and I made the drive top down (but then I
have a seven mile drive on surface streets). ;-)

First things to check are the lug nuts. If they are tight, check the wheel
bearings. My TR8 had some axial play and would make that noise when I
first got it. I was assured that it was not a problem and the rear end was
robust enough to endure. I sent it to a specialist when I took the car
apart and I don't know what he did (probably shimmed out the play) but it
is cured, now.

Dave
80 TR8
