Didn't see a reply to this ...

Tough call, IMO.  If it was leaking 40 years ago, it's sure going to leak
today ... OTOH disassembling enough to replace the gaskets and seals is
non-trivial.

But, having had an A-type pretty well eat itself while appearing to work OK,
my inclination would be to have it apart (or take it to someone like Herman
van den Akker or John Esposito) for inspection and seal/gasket replacement.
Guess it boils down to the state of your pocketbook, and how you feel about
having to take it back out if it doesn't work (and the oil spots on your
driveway).
