Coming out of the blue on this one, as I don't know TR3s. Have had similar 
problem on my Bugeye Sprite, which has a small air vent hole on the gas cap. If 
this is also the case on TR3s, a clogged hole could be causing vapor lock. I 
know Sprites and TR3s have a lot of parts in common. 

But...90% of all fuel problems are electrical. Check the grounding wire on 
your dizzy. These tend to fatigue near the connection and give off all sorts of 
false clues. Had that happen on the TR4A.

If that fails put the points back in the car and see if that takes care of 
it. I never really trust those black boxes.
