This past weekend I added a set of driving lamps to my Subaru.
Between the short days and my aging eyes I find it difficult to drive
in the longer nights, so more light = safer country driving. In the
course of wiring up the relay for the driving lights I discovered
something curious with the Subaru wiring. I picked up the hot lead
for the high beam to trigger the relay and when I switched on the low
beams, the driving lights also came on, so I took a closer look.
Turns out the hot lead for both the low and high beams is common and
the ground lead is switched by the relays for the respective lights.
This is not the way I was taught to do wiring and had me scratching
my head. From now on, when someone takes a shot at Lucas I'll point
to the Subaru and its "backward" wiring
