Just pulled my '55 tub. I braced the door openings and front wings, then 
spread the load with t 8' 4x4's between the footwells and trunk lid, then 
raised gently with a come-along.

No problems; floated right off.

I'd be inclined to think you might have missed a fastener (or more).

Don't forget that there may be non-stock anchoring points ... <grin>
