Dale,

Congatulations on your joining of the LBC world and welcome!  We triumph 
owners are all proud affianados of british motoring, or absolute gluttons 
for punishment, I haven't quite decided which.....:-)

Have you traced back the fuel system all the way to the tank?  I had the 
exact same problem with my '73 and found a small piece of debris stuck in 
the fuel line right before the fuel filter.  This was after pulling off the 
carbs, testing vacuum lines, replacing choke cables etc, etc. Bottom line is 
if you have to use the choke to reduce the amount of air, you may not be 
gettting the fuel you need for a proper air/fuel ratio in normal operation. 
IMO fuel filters are a cheap preventative maintenance item which should be 
eliminated out of the equation first, before you can resume beating your 
head against he wall. :-)
