Remote sensing allows the alternator to compensate for any voltage drop in
the wires to the battery, making it more effective at high charge rates.
This is especially important if you plan to keep the ammeter, but even so,
you're not likely to notice the difference unless you're in the habit of
stressing the charging system.  (Winter starts followed by short drives, for
example.)

OTOH, if you don't need better charging, why bother with an alternator ?
