My experience with this is that I had a sticking Gross Jet (that the right
name? ... the ball bearing contraption) in one of my carb float bowls that
kept it from filling at the proper rate. Therefore, I'd be driving on the
highway and everything was great, had power, consistency, etc then all of a
sudden no power, no engine response, and shuddering. I'd stop & check
everything, do nothing, and try again and all would be good! The problem
was at idle or when I had lost power and was essentially coasting, the fuel
input would exceed engine demand and fill float bowl ... when I'd get going
again, my demand exceeded the supply and once I sucked the float bowl dry
again, it would repeat.
