Jim:

I had the exact same thing told to me by a local shop.  He was able to see
in enough that he felt the tank was fine and not worth the cost to go the
route that you were told.

Mine has not had fuel run through it in some 30+ years, so thought I would
have it cleaned out and the insides coated. Took it to a gas tank/radiator
shop, and they got back to me saying that due to the internal baffles the
coating stuff would not be so effective. They referred to another shop that
could cut the tank apart to deal with it but that's more drastic action than
I had envisioned. For allI know the tank may be fine anyway; this was just
intended as a bit of preventive maintenance.
Anyone run into this before? I think most gas tanks have internal
baffles....what to do?
