To each their own, I guess.  Personally, I feel an ammeter gives me more
information.  If I'm wondering if the generator is handling the load, all I have
to do is add a bit more load (like stepping on the brake pedal) and watch to see
if the generator picks it up or not.  And a low-reading voltmeter can mean
almost anything, including the ignition switch going bad.  On my Stag, it means
the factory fuse block is about 30 years past it's useful lifetime.
