I never doubted the veracity of the story--that the accident occurred.  The
"Urban Legend" for me was the explanation for the cause.  That Toyota Motor
Sales made an announcement is not surprising.  It's the first thing, I
imagine, a legal team would tell a corporation in such a case....In the end,
lives were lost, so the news is terrible for this family.
