I have seen the gearwheel through off teeth. One can move it 180d but it cr=
eeps and will come around to the poor spot.

Just a thought, are you certain the arm is slipping on the shaft, and not
the gear slipping on the flexible rack?  Might be worth pulling out the rac=
k
to look for damage in that area; or maybe just make a witness mark on the
end of the shaft so you can see if it moved.

I'm not sure how similar a TR4A is, but on a TR3A, I've seen the little kno=
b
that the arm mounts to come loose on the shaft.  Drilling it for a spring
pin solved that problem.

Aluminum (or aluminium if you prefer) cans make a great source of shims.
Cut to size with scissors (tho it's probably best not to let the wife catch
you using her sewing scissors).

I've had the exact same issue with the reproduced wheel boxes and or the
wiper arms both replaced during my restoration. I am aware of a friends
TR250 with the issue after his restoration too.

I wrapped some aluminum foil around the wheel box and hope that helps. Wrot=
e
to TRF but no response. Frustrated.

First of all, I am coming up on five years of driving the car after the 8
year restoration project.
The advice and help I got through this forum was instrumental to getting he=
r
back on the road.
Thanks again to all of you.

I am experiencing a new issue that I hope you can help with.
I replaced one of the windshield wiper mounts, and both wiper arms, during
the restoration.
At first, everything worked great.
But now the wiper arm mounted to the new mounting ?slips" when traveling up
the windshield, but stays ?locked" when going down.
The effect is that the arm eventually ends up on the bonnet, doing a great
job of keeping it free of water!

I tried placing various things (teflon tape, rubber glove finger tips, etc.=
)
between the arm and mount in an attempt to create a tension great enough to
keep it from slipping, but to no avail.
My guess is that the splines in either the mounting wheel, and/or the wiper
arm, have become quickly worn, but somehow only in one direction?!?

Has anyone had this issue?  If so, what was the fix.
If I replace the arm and/or the mount, what vendor should I buy from?
Avoid?

Did exactly that (cut a thin shim) to put in the wheelbox in one of my cars=
 years agof  (don't remember which, possibly MGB/GT) I think they all have =
pretty much the same mechanism underneath.

In the manual for my Honda Inverter Generator it says:
"The DC receptacle should ONLY be used for charging 12 volt automotive
batteries. The DC charging output is not regulated. Check the battery
voltage frequently while charging to prevent overcharging the battery"
I'll be back tomorrow with voltage readings when running a charge.

:-)  the point wasn't that it couldn't work....  do you drive your car
every day? At least once every 4 days?

ALL caps self discharge. Personally I just think it's too dangerous.
with nearly no internal resistance...yes...no heat build up due to
internal resistance for high amp outputs) but it also means all that
power can discharge so rapidly it can melt wires.  A short or high
resistance across a bad contact and you've got big problems.  IF, and I
say IF it were ...I'll call it consumer safe.... don't you think auto
manufactires would already be all over it?

To this day I live with an electrical burn from a 1.5 second contact
with a 6 cell (7.2V) nickel cadium battery across my stainless steel
watchband. It turmed it cherry red and melted the clasp into the skin
right at the tendon. It took nearly two years for the square 'melt'
after the band was surgically removed. ... to flatten out. The scar is
still easily visible 20 years later. Testing shows those old RC car
battery packs can output a 1200amp spike for roughly 6 seconds.

Now NI-Cads are in the .2 ohm internal resistance range. (a Lead acid
around 2-4 ohms) LIthium poly and lithium ion, (laptops cell phones and
VAPE industry are around .07 (+/-)   My 3.7 (full charge at 4.2V) can
sustain a 30 amp output for 6 minutes....for something the size of your
thumb ( a very fat AA cell)  I never did a full power dump, as they have
a negative temperature coefficient. (thermal runnaway ...hence the
laptop fires)  Super caps have roughly a 0.07 milliohm (0.00007 ohms)
output resistance. Basically you can vaporize pennies! (yes... BTDT)

This perfect timing. Big storm coming my way it's a good time to test my
generator.
I setup up the generator on a very old battery that has been sitting for
a long time. The voltage reading was12.4V. With the Honda EU2000i
attached and running the voltage reading went right to 14.54V and in 10
minutes the voltage went to 14.85V. That's why manual cautions to check
voltage frequently.
As I said in an earlier email:

I suppose all generators are not the same or yours may have a defect.

yes...  These are lipo and or li-ion batteries as I described before.
High capacity high current discharge capable.

I'm thinking they must be li-ion as polys are not supposed to be left
fully charged for long periods of time (fire hazard)

Just a thought, are you certain the arm is slipping on the shaft, and not<b=

to look for damage in that area; or maybe just make a witness mark on the<b=

I'm not sure how similar a TR4A is, but on a TR3A, I've seen the little kno=

I've had the exact same issue with the reproduced wheel boxes and or the <b=

wiper arms both replaced during my restoration. I am aware of a friends <br=

TR250 with the issue after his restoration too.<br>

I wrapped some aluminum foil around the wheel box and hope that helps. Wrot=

I am experiencing a new issue that I hope you can help with.<br>
I replaced one of the windshield wiper mounts, and both wiper arms, during =

the restoration.<br>
At first, everything worked great.<br>
But now the wiper arm mounted to the new mounting ?slips&quot; when traveli=
ng up <br>
the windshield, but stays ?locked&quot; when going down.<br>
The effect is that the arm eventually ends up on the bonnet, doing a great =

job of keeping it free of water!<br>
<br>
I tried placing various things (teflon tape, rubber glove finger tips, etc.=
) <br>
between the arm and mount in an attempt to create a tension great enough to=
 <br>
keep it from slipping, but to no avail.<br>
My guess is that the splines in either the mounting wheel, and/or the wiper=
 <br>
arm, have become quickly worn, but somehow only in one direction?!?<br>
<br>
Has anyone had this issue?&nbsp; If so, what was the fix.<br>
If I replace the arm and/or the mount, what vendor should I buy from? <br>
Avoid?<br>

Did exactly that (cut a thin shim) to put in the wheelbox in one of my cars=
 years agof&nbsp; (don't remember which, possibly MGB/GT) I think they all =
have pretty much the same mechanism underneath.<br>

To this day I live with an electrical burn from a 1.5 second contact <br>

This perfect timing. Big storm coming my way it's a good time to test my <b=

I setup up the generator on a very old battery that has been sitting for <b=

a long time. The voltage reading was12.4V. With the Honda EU2000i <br>
attached and running the voltage reading went right to 14.54V and in 10 <br=

minutes the voltage went to 14.85V. That's why manual cautions to check <br=

voltage frequently.<br>
As I said in an earlier email:<br>
In the manual for my Honda Inverter Generator it says:<br>
&quot;The DC receptacle should ONLY be used for charging 12 volt automotive=

batteries. The DC charging output is not regulated. Check the battery <br>
voltage frequently while charging to prevent overcharging the battery&quot;=

I suppose all generators are not the same or yours may have a defect.<br>

yes...&nbsp; These are lipo and or li-ion batteries as I described before. =

High capacity high current discharge capable.<br>

I'm thinking they must be li-ion as polys are not supposed to be left <br>
