I just can't let this one go by. We went to Monterey for both weekends
last year (1996), for the first time after 20 years of vintage and non
vintage racing. It was absolutely wonderful! Steve and Debbie Earle were
just great - treated us easterners with great respect and charm. We
played by the rules, made sure we didn't screw up (we understood we were
on someone else's "turf"- if it matters) The racing is incomparable and
has us somewhat spoiled now -after we've seen Paree!) Now we know where
all the east coast cars went to!
Anyway, I think Steve Earle is more than OK in my book. He has a VERY
tough job. Just stop and think for a minute what he has to go though to
put that event on. Despite all this he took the time to be extremely
nice to us. (We are not rich eighteen-wheeler types, by the way.) Just
being there was reward enough. I've seen a lot of badly run events, and
his is certainly not one of them. Plus he is holding the line against
taking the "vintage" out of vintage racing, and takes a lot of flak for
it. I will be thrilled to go back someday. Steve, you have our votes, if
it matters.

Flame away!!!
Susan
