Joe--Starters on the verge of "going bad" seem to do so quicker when they are hot. I suspect that your spare was replaced at one time for this reason. I use a pair of snap ring pliers with a 45 deg.

thanks for the advice. I took the starter to a shop. The electrician told me the same thing. Plus, a new motor, with better compression, etc... would be more difficult to turn over. I used it a lot

Which year TR6s had an ignition relay on the left fender? The only two relays I have are for horn and hazard Joe Davis
