It is normal for the oil gauge to go up and down, depending on the rev'ving of the engine. However, at idle there should still be some oil pressure (more than zero). Now, with an old roadster gauges,

I think your oil pressure gauge is mechanical like the '68s and '69s, that is, it operates directly off the engine oil gallery. The tap is on the right side of the engine, just above the joint with
