It's a Herald thing, I'm not sure it ever came in a Spitfire from the factory.... desireable for racing and making it easier to install your transmission yourself. Expect a full report from Andy... C

I'm assuming you're talking about the square part that engages the transmission drive... Make sure there isn't a broken piece stuck in the speedometer drive receptacle in the transmission!

What is a lower holder? The main bearing cap? Are you sure you're installing them (the TW's) properly? The groove in the TW goes towards (touches, rubs on...) the moving part, which is the crankshaft

I've never seen a main bearing cap get worn as you describe. Perhaps the block has been damaged from a TW dropping out, the crank and block wore down some, new TW's were installed and they wore down

I use Fram PH8A (large can) filters using the oil filter adaptor from the early MkI 1147 engines (threads into the block with filter sized thread sticking out for the filter). Used to use PER-1 Purol

That does it, I'm off to buy a supply of Mobil-1 M301 filters for my Spitfire. $10 versus $3 and a junk engine is a no brainer! Anyone want my supply of Fram PH8A's?? I've been using them for decades

The slinger was used in the early non-synchro units of the 60's Yours should have a seal in the bell housing, unless you fitted an early bellhousing... Let me know... Clark
