My '60 MGA roadster's doors fit nicely flush. The passenger door is about 1/4cm out at the top, but not really noticeable. Point being - the doors *should* fit flush. Kosten. I used an impact wrench

Thanks for the advice given. I disconnected the sender, and tested the fuel gauge as you suggested. It turns out that when the gauge is open-circuit, it reads full, and when grounded, it reads empty,
