According to Golden State Pickup Parts on-line catalog they are the same and according to Chevy Duty the kits to repair the hinges are the same 47 to 72 and the 47 to 54 hinge springs are the same.

When you remove the speedometer cable there is no gear. It has a square end on BOTH ends of the cable. That fits in the gear (a square hole) and turns the gear. You have to take out a bolt to remove
