I think its a matter of wiring your od so that you can use it in all forward gears. Wouldn't think your od lasts very long if you use it in first, especially if your engine is tuned. Wouldn't think

FWIW thats quite the same what I did, I was finally able to trace it to a faulty relay. Now the TR has been standing for a week, battery connected and all, just like you would expect it starts first

Would very Case was full of oil and little metal pieces. The new Didn't help in my case, change gear oil every year(only do about 20k miles a year) but never had any shavings or other stuff in there.

You don't say what kind of bushes you use. I used superflex poly bushes with them it help if you heat the bushes up in a waterbath and use grease(sparingly otherwise you slip off and do yourself all
