The problem is: Take a quick compute of the side load onto your sprocket. On a 6 cylinder engine, the torque required to turn the cam, move all the lifter gear, compress springs, etc is non-trivial.

Out of sight, but not unheard of. I've never heard of anyone actually *paying* that much though. $10K for a spectacular example or a car with history is not unheard of. Add $1K or so for a good one.

According to the book I have, early type Spit 1147's were furnished with a scroll type rear oil seal, and later types with a lip/rubber type oil seal. The rear oil seal housings are different as well
