I have found the easiest method, for me.... is to put slight tension on the fan belt with my thumb, and with the engine in neutral I can turn the engine by simply TURNING THE FAN. Of course, DISCLAIM

I checked out the slide switch, and the pressure from the front system pushed the switch over to mostly block flow on the rear system. but when I readjusted the switch, I lock up on the front system

Don't move! I've got a '71 , in florida, and run it 50 miles a day back in forth to work.... it rusts, but it runs. As for the carb, check for a vacuum leak, and you could clean it with carb cleaner
