My answer is "it depends" The US stock exhaust manifold is not a particularly good flowing unit. It's just a big blob of iron that the exhaust gasses get to fight around in before wandering their way

I was particularly thinking of the Fiat 124, and the Toyota pickup truck. The manifolds are nearly identical to the Spitfires. Both used a cast iron upper manifold. Both used a twin tube lower pipe.
