Yeah, Earl, I was right in my thinking, but wrong in reality. Gary Anderson is correct: You can't disconnect the black/white wire at the coil because then you'll also be disabling the distributor. I

You're a little confused. There are two white/black wires to the coil. One from the distributor, and one from the battery switch. You can disconnect the one from the battery switch with no problems.
