All, I pulled the cap, and what do I see??A pile of metal shavings all over on top the plates inside the cap. I've never seen that before! I'm really surprised the car was running as well as it was.

I noticed the contacts inside the cap are pretty uniformly eaten away and the metal contact on top the rotor is loose and moves a little. If the distributor shaft is bad, shouldn't it wiggle a little

I am starting to see this more and more. The rotor will not go on all the way on the distributor shat with the electronic ignition. It bottoms out on the timing rotor and thus it just touches the ins

I'm thinking that since the car is new to me and I don't know what happened in the past, that perhaps I should try replacing the cap and rotor to see if it happens again, then perhaps go to replacing

I had the same problem with the rotor not fitting on all the way with the electronic ignition. I held the rotor to the side of my grinding wheel until it fit. Has worked fine for several years. Ned P

Do yourself a favor and spring for genuine Lucas distributor cap and plug connectors. Get solid (copper) core wires and make your own secondary wiring. The plug connectors will have 15K ohm resistors
