I have been using Clevite # 216-1143 valve stem seals for years. They fit right over the top of the stock valve guide and just barely fit inside the inner spring.. I just bought some seals identical

I have heard that some folks (mostly racers) do not use valve stem seals at all. Reason could be to assure lubrication between the stem and the guide. Any truth to that rumor? Whats the down side? Ji
