If the voltage drop unit is the solid state type the is not affected by how much the load is they will work fine for converting 12 to 6 volts for a tube radio. I however have not seen one for convert

id hate to get into the conversation at this late date, but why are you trying to save a few bucks (8 volt vs. 6 volt) when in the long run you'll be spending time and money trying to catch a problem
