i may be full of smoke too.but my 53 thermostat is not electrical.only the fuel and amperage are electrical gauges wile the oil presure and temp are manual or work on expansion from heat.....steve ol

Do you have the engine block well grounded to the frame? The starter could be using the temp gauge tubing as the ground it needs. The ground is very important for lots of things. Mike Klepp '48 3100
