You could also think abt replacing the 250 with the 292 six. I don't know, but think it should be a simple swap. But I'd want to go with a 3/4 ton with either a 4 spd manual, or GOOD automatic. I lik

I have a '72 Chevy pickup with a 350/350 which feels under-powered pulling a truck on a trailer. I've not pushed it past 60 doing towing anything and have never towed anything more than maybe 75 mile

I used one in a 1968 short truck in 1970 to tow a 3500# race car and trailer from Florida to Tulsa OK. We cut a stick to jam between the gas pedal and the seat because our foot would start burning ma

Steve, I have to question you on this one. Using a dolly will not make it easier to slow down. Mass is mass, whether it's on 4 wheels or 8, once it's moving it still takes the same effort to slow it

I agree with almost every point you made. Unfortunately I don't have the stuff to control trailer brakes in my pickup, and the trailer I borrow isn't a car trailer, its an implement trailer, used to

I think the idea is that the "package" weight using the dolly over the trailer 1000lbs less than using the trailer so the total mass is less and the stopping momentum is a little less, but you're cor

Well with the job now done, I can tell you that my buddy's '54 sitting on the dolly felt easier to handle, and stop, than my '54 did sitting on a trailer six months ago. I pulled both with the same '

My dad owned a 250 6 in a 67 3/4 ton Sub with granny low 4 speed when I was in high school. It would pull or haul anything a 3/4 ton pickup would. With the 6, you just won't do much freeway cruising

Hi All That Little '68 truck with a 250 became a much better tow truck after we replaced the 250 with a 396 and the 3 speed with a car 4 speed. I could even keep up with traffic up in your country Ma
