Would a s10 4X4 frame work with a 49 GMC? Would a 292 engine fit? Bob K in oletrucks is devoted to Chevy and GM trucks built between 1941 and 1959

Why would you want to put an old engine in a new frame swap? I thought that the beauty of the frame swap was the modern engine, suspension, transmission, steering and other stuff in an OLD Pcup. The

If it's the long wheelbase S10 it shoud be correct. It is for my '59. I've been debating it myself. -- Scott H. Zekanis zman@kungfumonkey.com http://www.rod-o-rama.com http://www.thehellbenders.com 1

Being one of the few that has actually done the S-10 swap, I guess i ought to throw in my 2 cents. The frame swap has its pros and cons. I put an 1988 S-10 long bed frame (but not 4x4) under my 1951

The S10 frame is easily shortened, so if you start with a long one, making it the right length is not a big deal. The 4x4 has a wider rear axle, and fits better than the 2wd rears do. The S10 guys ha

Either you mismeasured, or I did. I measured one, considering that option for my '58. If I remember right, it was about 3-4 inches off. You could make it work, by moving the spring mounts, and notchi

The S10 chassis I have dealt with are either 108, 118, or 122.9 inches. The '59 should be 114 inches for the shortbed or 123.25 for the longbed. The longer S10 chassis works perfect for the longbed '

The only reason to move the engine back is to use an engine mounted fan or a puller electric. 4.3 mounts and a push fan and the v-8 sit in there real pretty. -- Scott H. Zekanis zman@kungfumonkey.com

I didn't know that. The only guy I've discussed the V-8 swap with moved the whole works backward to make it fit. I'm betting the 292 would require moving something to make it fit... -- Original Messa

That looks like a good outfit to keep track of, they sure have the engine mountings for the S-10 under control. But I think on you AD's & TF's you would want to mount your engine farther aft than the
