I am pretty sure the Chevy had a 216 "thriftmaster" engine, while the GMC had a 228. Probably other guys on the list can confirm this. Of course, we are talking about 1/2 ton trucks, right? Brian Ste

While the Chevy and GMC do share a few parts (water pump, cam bearings, engine mounts) they are otherwise entirely different. GMC are full pressure oiling, Chevy are dip and splash. Jack Halton 51 GM

The chevy in the half ton was a 216 babbitt bearing dip and splatter, sorry sort of lubrication system. The GMC had a real oiling system and was a 228 cubic inch . I believe GMC had full pressure oil
