The gear isn't supposed to be on the end of the actual cable. It will be inside the transmission. The cable should be square on the end that meshes with the plastic gear set on the inside. If you pul

When you remove the speedometer cable there is no gear. It has a square end on BOTH ends of the cable. That fits in the gear (a square hole) and turns the gear. You have to take out a bolt to remove
