When I had a similar problem it turned out to be a bad battery cable. Make sure the ground is good (Ground to a starter bolt is best)and cables aren't frayed inside the shielding, from vibration. Als

Hi Brad, If the starter is just free spinning it Sounds like the starter bendix is out. That the part in the starter that shoots forward with the gear that engages the starter gear with the flywheel.
