The only "modern" replacement for a Gen is to convert the car to negative ground and install an alternator. There are a couple of kits out there, but probably the cheapest and best conversion comes

With a little effort, a good shop can convert a negative ground alternator to positive ground. It's a matter of replacing the diodes with opposite polarity. Not sure if many would want to go to the

Replacing the alternator diodes would be the easy part. You would also have to reverse the polarity of every semiconductor and electrolytic capacitor in the voltage regulator. - Bernie Johnsen 67 BJ8
