- The 948 cc in my Bugeye is beginning to get a little tired so I plan on replacing it with the 1275 cc in my garage.I understand that there is a need to do a"slight" bit of grinding on the smoothcase

- Cylinder head is a better choice. That's what I did. Do you have an old dead water temp guage? you could use the old bulb and fitting to plug the extra opening. Otherwise, try a plumbing or auto part

- No real connection between the engine and the brake system, unless your concerned about the "extra power"...'-) Most run the original hydraulics even with a 1275, but many upgrade to disc brakes. Ger

- I'm not fully understanding your question, but I think I have done similar to what you are proposing. I just installed a later 1275 (12V) into an early 1275 car ('67). The car came with a downflow.
