I rebuilt my 1275 and have finally got it into the car. Before I attempt to run it , I would like to turn it over , build up some oil pressure, and generally make sure nothing is going to break. Ques

STOPPP!!! Before you actually start the engine, disconnect the high-tension lead to the distributor. Then turn the engine slowly with the starter motor till you see the oil pressure come up on the g

Sorry 'bout that. I responded before reading you entire note. I just finished a rebuild and had the same question. Didn't take but a couple seconds to get the pressure up in my 1275. again, sorry. c

If you don't pull the plugs, this is almost a waste of time. The big ends still have to crank with the strain of compression with no oil. Pull the plugs. -- Trevor Boicey, Ottawa, Canada. tboicey@bri

Yes, using an oil can, keep feeding oil into the hole at the right rear of the block. If you have an oil cooler, it is where the rearward fitting is. If you don't, it is where the copper pipe goes f

I forgot something else. If you put a new cam and lifters in the engine, you should bed these in first before you go driving. The procedure is 2,000 - 2,500 rpm for 30 minutes as soon as possible aft

Yes.remove the oil pipe (from filter to block) at the block and put a few onces of oil down there, this primes the oil pump. When primed, about 5 seconds. Pull plugs, spin engine, stand aside! this w

There is actually a good reason for this procedure. In normal operation, the lifters (like the valves) rotate slowly and more or less randomly under use. This is because the lifter-cam junction is sl
