Try auctions in your local area to find cheap shop machines. Don't go the route of the multi purpose machines as they are a pain. Also if you do it right you can buy a good used unit with all the too

I've seeen used Bridgeports fairly reasonably priced. However, a used Enco will be much cheaper. Remember when Bridgeport put their nameplate over an Enco machine? I do, that machine went back fast.
