This sounds like a diesel setup. Have you tried contacting one of the piston ring manufacturers, Perfect Circle, TRW, they can probably answer any question you might have. Just a thought? Tony G LI,N

Hi Todd, For what its worth. Long ago when rebuilding and old Ford Y block the 30 over pistons and rings set I ordered had a 4 ring set-up similar to what you describe with one oil ring below the pin

The two compression ring grooves are the same width and depth(as are the related coated top ring and cast second ring). The oil ring grooves(both above and below the wristpin) are also the same width

I was always taught to allow 0.004" end gap clearence for every 1 inch of cylinder bore on the top (fire) ring end gap. Second compression ring you could allow 0.003" end gap clearence per inch of bo

I dont know about 4 stroke--but I "think that describes the ring agrrangement on a 71 series detroit diesel--it has a pressurerised cankcase "Sparky" RATICAL AA/GL 2211 219.124 El Mirage
