Rebuilds I've done on brake and clutch master cylinders, as well as clutch slave cylinders have lasted a year or so at most before leaking occurs. I've since just purchased new units from TRF and BP

You should inspect the bore of the cylinder for wear or pitting - certainly no comparison in terms of cost (ouch!!), so if a kit will do, go that route. Also a reminder to flush all hydraulics every
