It seemsto me that I had this problem when there was a leak in the connector hoses between the manifold and the carb balancer. Ran a lot better after I replaced them. Ned Paulsen 60 BN7

Usually you will find that a "misfire", backfire (noise) during de-acceleration based activities will be an exhaust leak. A similar noise on acceleration will be an intake system leak. Hope that help

Backfiring through the exhaust is caused by unburned fuel...the carbs continue to deliver fuel after the throttle is "shut off". I'd check to see if the mixture is way too rich (for what ever reason
