there was oil in the intake - I thought it was from the dash pots as I do keep them filled. Plugs are clean and dry, light brown electrode, slightly lighter ceramic centre. all exactly the same. Guy

The only 10W/50 I've seen is a partial synthetic. Could it be that the break-in oil was just too slippery to allow the rings to seat?

Were they "County" brand pistons/rings? Friend of mine had a problem with those recently on an MGB engine. He ended up putting new pistons and rings in -again-; different brand. Probably fewer miles
