- In the "What If" Dept. Is there any reason not to mount a return spring for both carbs on the throttle linkage to save wear on throttle shafts? If that's a bad idea, do our vendors carry OEM return s

- Sure for about $10 ea. Where on the linkage would you put the spring to get the right return action? Just a thought. Mike Koken Roadster Repairs in Colo. Spgs. -- Original Message -- From: "snyler" <

- Marc, Just took a look at the L-motor/SSS SU setup that I have and it has a spring on each carb, both off of the shaft that runs between the two carbs. I think this setup is different than on the R-

- Too heavy a return spring can cause wear on the throttle shafts and bushings. The ideal arrangement would be to have two springs that work symmetrically on the shaft to eliminate such wear, but that'

- I thought that was the way the R-16 carbs were. There ought to be a way that you can fab a bracket that would put an adjustable stop in the same plane as the spring tension, but the idle speed screw

- The R-16 has both carbs with float bowls on the left (as viewed from the air cleaner side) There is a linkage that uses 2 points on the intake manifold as a pivot, and a little thumbscrew to adjust t

- In general that would work, but for safety reasons, it's better to have the return springs acting directly on the carbs. That way if the linkage breaks, the carbs will close. Gordon Glasgow Renton, W

- Good point! Thanks! Also, I guess, now that I think of it, with the normal setup, if one spring fails, you have another at least *trying to close both carbs through the linkage. It's back to the vend
