I was thinking about timing and realized that I had set the timing and adjusted the carbs a week before it boiled over. I am not very comfortable at doing this so I wonder if I have screwed it up som

I had my 2L rad recored in preparation for my stroker project and I want to know if a 12" Flex-a-lite electric fan is powerful enough to keep the engine happy. I used to use the stock 4 bladed fan fr

An increase in engine size is going to increase the load on the cooling system in any case. The key to making a fan work is a good shroud so that the fan pulls air through the entire surface of the

One of the problems with the stock shroud is that it is way off center no doubt due to the fact that the fan is off centered and so when I center my electric fan the shroud gets in the way. Oh well.

A stock radiator with a 4 row high efficiency core does a great job for cooling even with the mickey-mouse stock 4 blade 67.5 SPL fan and shroud. It cools a 2L pushrod engine with 200-205 psi pressu

You need to center the fan, electrical or mechanical, in the center of the shroud opening fore and aft, otherwise it's still only pulling air through the portion of the rad directly in front of the

Hey Dan... Did you remove the stock unit? Are you runnning both? I was thinking of removing the stock fan and installing an electric fan. I hear that there are some small performance gains to be had.

By removing the engine-driven fan and replacing it with a thermostatically-controlled electric fan you free up the power used up driving that fan to go to the rear wheels :^) You'd be surprised how m

To evaluate the performance change-- Yes, it takes energy to run any fan. Maybe only a small amount (my guess, 1 to 1.5 HP). So the question is "Where do you want to get the HP from? Directly from th

I recently read an article about that exact same scenario. The electric fan drained .5 HP and depending on the mechanical fan employed, up to 10 HP were lost as the revs climbed. There was no contest

The below is correct but overlooks one thing. The electric fan only runs (draws HP via a greater load on the alternator) when the fan is running. The HP gain, however small it may be, comes from the
