Frank: the color is an orange/red shade. It'll clash with just about any other color that the car happens to be painted!

The cast iron center section should be painted reddish orange. One of the best color matches is Red Insulating Enamel, (electrical insulation coating) used on armatures. I've read the purpose behind

Bruce, Good input on the diff case color. This a question I've been meaning to ask too. I wonder if Red Insulating Enamel is available in Santa Clara Country? No other decent paints are these days.

The other common reason I've heard for using glyptal inside the motor is to trap any loose grit in the pourous casting. I know of more than one machine shop that does this on their hypo rebuilds. A
