Here is a link to the pictures of what I had to do to the tunnel of my Bugeye to get the driveshaft to slide into the Datsun transmission. It was a last resort after several attempts to accomplish it

I don't understand. I've done this swap on three cars (2 1275's & 1 948) and never had a problem. I wonder what's different about your car.

Doesn't it have to be able to slide in and out easily as the suspension moves? What was binding? Was the oil seal too tight, or were the splines not meshing properly?

Are you saying that this was all because of a floppy u-joint? If so, there are lots of ways to get around that.
