David... I've got a similar problem with an '80 MGB. I posted a message a while back asking people to share their experiences with getting modified cars passed CA smog and got very little feed back.

The reason MG and Jaguar went away from SU carbies for US spec cars was that they are a mongrel to get emission levels down to the required level at idle. We have no problems in Oz (not yet anyway) b

blessed by a CA Smog Referee HIF4's while using the Weber. At smog time, I've had to put the HIF4's back on with the smog equipment. I passed the smog check without any trouble. But, I also noticed

In a recent post Graham McCann indicated that Webers give poor idle and use lots of fuel. I don't know what Webers he has used but the down draft setup I bought from Moss idles at 600 rpm very nicely
