Hey Gang: Can anyone refer me to a dyno shop in the San Fernando Valley, or other Los Angeles adjacent areas? I need to get someone to set up my distributor and timing who actually knows what they're

I'm pretty sure your problem is the mechanical advance springs in your distributor are way too stiff. Depending on the distributor you have, this is a relatively easy thing to fix yourself. However,

You have noticed the problem, now what do you do about it? The engine wants more timing at idle, and less at full speed. The way to get this is to reduce the amount of mechanical advance the distibut

Very helpful. Could you also add some instructions about the springs? We want a pretty aggressive mechanical advance with it all in for sure by no more than 3,000 rpm. Do you have a recipe for the s

Bob, Spring kit cheap. Dial-back strobe, moderate, tape $6. R&R to replace springs, easy. All-in by 2700-2900 rpm, set max. at what, say 37 deg. max., idle where it wants to? Hey, this isn't rocket s

The problem with the total timing method and letting the initial fall where it may, is that low rpm driveability and throttle response can be poor if your distributor is putting in 30 degrees all by

Thirty degrees of total advance will work well, IF you have the right springs. Say you want 36 total advance at 3,000 rpm. That means you set at 6 degrees at idle. If you have a very soft initial sp

To all, While we are on the subject of timing, perhaps you all could give me your recommendation for the initial timing spec for my tiger. It is a K-code 289, with the ford dual point distributor, It

Hi Randy, It might be that all K-code 289s came with the same dual-point distributors (I wouldn't know) but there's no guarantee that in the last 35 years, someone didn't diddle with the distributor.

Thanks for the data. It seems to be all in by 2500 rpm (good), and have 2x10 + 10 or 12 = 30 to 32 degrees max. adance. Now that they have queitly stolen 1 octane of the 92 gas, to 91, and some have
