On the universal fuel tank senders the ohm range is 240-33. Anybody know if the 240 is full or empty?

Technically, I suppose it depends upon if the car is Neg or Pos ground. It is a simple rheostat. Therefore changing the direction the current flows through it will reverse the operation of the rheost

I really do not think that reversing the polarity will affect the resistance readings of the rheostat. A rheostat simply varies the resistance, regardless of the direction of current flow. Resitors

Uh, no. Resistance doesn't give a flip about polarity, unless you're measuring a diode. Jim is right about one thing, though. An ohmmeter will tell you for sure. Throw an ohmmeter between the termina

If I had the sender I would have checked it first.

Yer absolutely right about this! I had to draw it out because the brain had failed me. I'm a slow learner, but I do eventually get it... ;-) Figure #1 rheostat..... reading 240 ohms resistance regard

What the resistance of the sender unit is ONLY counts if it MATCHES the Early spridgets read one way, i.e., XXX = full - XX = empty. Whereas later spridgets read the opposite, i.e., XX = full - XXX =

That's my point. I know how the Spridgets work and was wondering if a universal gauge matched (or close too) the later Spridget sender.
