The second terminal is probably for a ground. Check if it is attached directly to the plate holding the sending unit in. The wiring diagram shows a wire to ground. My 74B has a ground terminal. someo

I usually pull the rotor out and take it with me. A LOT smaller than a steering wheel!....I've also been known to take the coil wire as a companion. Both of these options are FREE compared to battery
